Phillies Capture the Crown

Phillies win a one-run game, 1-0, to earn the Swampscott Little League Softball championship.

The Phillies Minor League Softball team took home the championship on Friday night with a 1-0 win over the Diamondbacks.  The girls ended the season with a 9-2 regular season record (10-2 with playoffs).
 
Nicole Modica, starting pitcher for the Phillies, shut down the Diamondbacks with bases loaded in the top of the 3rd inning.  

Marley Schmidt hit a grounder in the bottom of the 3rd sending Katie Watts home with the game winning RBI.  Emma Tomlins, closing pitcher, was outstanding as she held the lead after giving up a triple to the first batter faced in the 5th inning.

Ashley Marston hustled in the outfield to get the ball back to the pitcher forcing the runner to stop at third base.   Emma then managed to get the next three batters out. 

Katie Watts did great catching and controlling/signaling for Emma during the last three innings.  Veteran Kaleigh Cantin did awesome catching in the first three innings, capping her three years on the Phillies with a glorious victory.

Hats off to Julia Webster and Ciara Espaillat with solid hits, Chrissy Rogers rocking at first base, Naomi Culliton great fielding, and Julia Rapisarda, fearless as always.
