One Up, One Down for Swampscott High Lacrosse

Boys Beat the Clock to Top Salem; Girls Fall to Lynnfield

It was a split decision for Swampscott High lacrosse Saturday as the girls fell to Lynnfield 14-9 at Blocksidge Field.  Later in the day, the boys notched two goals in the final seconds of play to surge past Salem 13-12.

The girls were led by Seniors Chloe Dorgan and Bridget Lawless each tallied two goals.  Alexa Goldman, Marina Roberts, Cathryn Singley, Priscilla Sullivan, and Mackenzie Robertson each added a goal while freshman goaltender Katie Papele blocked ten shots in the Swampscott net.

At Salem's Bertram Field, Swampscott trailed 12-11 with under a minute to play but roared ahead, scoring the winning goal with nine seconds showing on the clock.

Junior Captain Griffin Hunt (2 goals) scored the game tying goal with 29 seconds remaining in game. The ensuing face off was won by sophomore Jason Dignan (2 goals) who raced down the field scoring the winning goal with ten seconds left on the clock.


Senior captain Brian Santry had a monster game scoring 5 goals. In addition to Santry, Hunt and Dignan the Big Blue Goals were scored by Robert Driscoll, Josh Rothwell, Kevin Marescalchi and Noah Maercklein.

The Big Blue played their best game of the season against a Salem team that came into game with a 14-5 record.

"Salem is a big rivalry game each year and has a long history of extremely tight games," said Assistant Coach Thomas Driscoll. "Today was the way the Big Blue is capable of playing."

Goalies Scott Powell and Max Cohen combined for 14 saves.
