North Shore Swim Club Update

Here's an update on the North Shore Swim Club.

The following was submitted by the North Shore Swim Club:

After 11 weeks of grueling workouts, and long weekends spent at the pool racing the clocks. The senior team for North Shore Swim Club flocked to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology for New England Swimming’s 13-19 Age Group Championship, which also happened to be hosted by North Shore Swim Club.

This is the third year the team has hosted this particular meet at MIT, and they are poised to do so for the next several years. The Championship meet started this past Thursday evening and ran till Sunday night.

The entire weekend was a great success for the individuals that competed, as well as the team as whole. We had 24 individuals compete, along with another 20 who came to support, take part in relays, and do time trials to see if they could make times for the upcoming sectional meet, and summer champs.

The team placed 16th out of 50 teams on the weekend. We had several team records broken, and lots of personal best made on the weekend.

To make it back to finals every night the kids had to swim the fastest the ever had and then if they made it back they had to try for repeat of already fantastic swims. Our swimmers really stepped and made the most of every situation that they were put in overthe weekend.

North Shore Swim Club also competed at the Jewish Community Center Swim Championships this past weekend in Springfield, Ma.

The team sent 25 swimmers downto this meet. All our swimmers were placed in the top 3 heats of every event and took advantage of it by winning there heats, and besting their times.

The great thing about this meet for our kids is that it is a low key meet against teams we don’t swim against till theend of the season giving them a new opportunity to race kids they don’t know the ability of, unlike when we go to a normal USA sanctioned meet and we started to recognize the names and faces after every week.

There are no relationships that are built prior to this meet. It's out of our kids comfort zone which makes it great, and nerve wracking on all of us involved.

The team is now gearing up to head to Florida early next Thursday morning for Speedo Championship Series Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale.

The team will be taking 20 athletes to this high caliber meet. Our largest contingence of athletes to go to this meet in a longtime. NSSC is in their fourth session of training this week, and it will run through April 17, 2011, if you have any question please contact coach Tony Padaskis at tonypad@aol.comor visit our website www.northshoreswimclub.com

12 AND UNDERS

After 10 weeks of hard work, practices, and long weekends at swim meets.

The 12 & under's that qualified for New England Championships packed not only their swim suits, caps, and goggles, but their snow boots, jackets, hat and mittens as they headed to the Upper Valley Aquatic Center in White River Junction, Vermont.

NorthShore Swim Club had 13 athletes qualify for the three and half day meet. And as the snow started to fall on the mountains so did the best times for the swimmers.

Of the thirteen kids that made the trek northward two came from NSSC’s JCC and Salem StateUniversity facilities. Zachary Michaels (12) and Jordan Coan (11). Both of these young athletes are no strangers to this meet Zach qualified in 09 and Jordan last year.

Both ofthese young swimmers have worked tremendously hard all season working hard atpractice that they attended and step up at every meet and try to see what they can do.

Both Zack and Jordan are very driven, goal oriented. Zack had three swims on the weekend swimming to times that were right on from the times he had been swimming at NE Regional's two weeks prior.

Jordan swam in two relays over the weekend and dropped a considerable amount of time in both of those.

Both Zack and Jordan will be competing at the JCC Dual League Championships in Springfield, Ma is coming Sunday March 6th.

Four other swimmers from the JCC, and Salem along with twenty other swimmers from North Shore’s four other facilities willjoin them.

NSSC is starting their fourth session of training this week, and it will run through April 17 2011, if you have any question please contact coach Tony Padaskis attonypad@aol.com or visit our website www.northshoreswimclub.com
