New Blood Keeps Oldest Game in Town Going

The long running Sunday morning pick-up softball league got the go-ahead from selectmen to post a sign to recruit softball players. Call 781-593-8710 for information on the game.

Selectmen were happy to OK Jack Gould's request to hang a sign at inviting softball players to join the town's longtime Sunday morning pick-up league.

The board will continue to OK the sign request every two weeks, the renewal in keeping with town sign regulations.

"I joined from that sign," he said.

He is now a regular in the Sunday morning game, patrolling the outfield.

Pitchermade the request for the sign on Tuesday on behalf of Jack Gould, a league stalwart for many years.

The league is organized the same way that kids' pickup ball games use to come together.

Only instead of boys and girls, it's men and women who gather on the third base line for the two sides to choose up.

Kessler said the league has been in existence since after World War II.
