Swampscott Little Leaguer Pitches Perfect Game

A Swampscott Little League pitcher threw a perfect game on Tuesday.

Brian McKinnon, 10, pitched a perfect game Tuesday.

A local 10-year-old pitched a gem on Tuesday, striking out nearly every batter he faced.

Brian McKinnon, pitcher for the Nahant Huskies, needed only 55 pitches to complete his perfect four-inning performance in the Swampscott Little League's Baseball Minor's Division game.

McKinnon struck out every batter with the exception of one, leading the Huskies to victory.

Thanks to Dom Nicastro for passing along the photos and story.

My son was on the losing team in Brian McKinnon's "perfect game" on Tuesday. He tells me the next-to-last batter on his team drew a walk, and that his teammates were all cheering the kid (ironically?) as their "MVP." That would mean that Brian threw a no-hitter, itself a big accomplishment (and his striking out all but two batters makes it an even bigger one). But the walk means it wasn't a perfect game.

Well Bill, I am the coach of the winning team and you are correct that Brian walked the second to last batter and he did it because I asked him to because there was one kid on the bench that would not have gotten his ups all night. It was more important for Brian to understand good sportsmanship than it was to strike the kid out and leave some 10 year old boy without getting up all night. Brian will certainly have more success stories I can assure you that but this lesson was worth a lot more than a 10 year old little league perfect game. That is how we do things in Nahant. Hope this explains it.

really? wow. you're the type of parent that does this huh?

Yeah, I'm the type of parent who likes accurate reporting from my news sources. I take it you prefer the opposite.

For you to even consider the Patch a reliable new source speaks volumes. If it wasn't for Dom Nicastro who actually writes sports, there would be no story in the Patch. You should take it up with Owen. Let the 10 year old kid from Nahant have his 10 minutes.
