LL Stars' Tourney Run Ends In 9-1 Loss To Saugus

The team will take a month off then return to action for the annual Raymond Gallant Baseball Tournament.

Theall-star baseball team's three-game winning streak in the District 16 tournament ended Sunday against Saugus National.

The solid defense that carried Swampscott to earlier victories wasn't with them on Sunday as they gave up too many unearned runs losing to Saugus 9-1 at Pine Hill Little League in Lynn, said Manager Rob Hopkins.

"We are very proud of them," the manager said. "They played hard."

Some teams might have folded up and lost their competitive spirit after losing by the mercy rule in the opening game on June 24, against a solid Lynnfield team.

Instead, the continued to practice and play hard and stayed alive for another two weeks in the 29-team district, tearing off three victories, the manager said.

Now the team will take a month off and return to action for the annual Raymond Gallant Tournament at Forest River Park in Salem in mid-August.
