Little Leaguers Back in Action Tonight and Tomorrow

The 11- year-olds go up against Saugus American Little League tonight, and the 12-year-olds will play Peabody American's Little League team on Thursday.

Two undefeated Swampscott Little League All-Star baseball teams will be in action today and tomorrow.

For today's game, Dan Santanello's 11-year-olds go on the road to play Saugus American's All-Star squad.

The game will be played on Saugus's home field.

This is a curveball, Santanello said.

League coaches and officials agreed before the tournament started to play their games on neutral fields, Santanello said.

"I'm disappointed," said Santanello, who registered his displeasure with a district official.

The official's answer was that it is getting too hard to find fields upon which to play games, Santanello said.

Swampscott has done its part hosting games for other teams and Santanello thinks that should be reciprocated rather than giving Saugus a home field advantage.

In any event, Santanello said his squad has been working hard and he wants them to keep their focus on the game.

The 11-year-olds won 9-8 win over Wyoma in eight innings a week ago.

Meanwhile, Lou Olivieri's 12-year-olds will be in action Thursday at 5:45 p.m. against Peabody American Little League in East Lynn.

The Swampscott team has yet to give up a run in the tournament, and won its last game 12-0 against Nahant.
