The 6th Annual King of Clubs Regatta will be sailed in Nahant Bay — in the portion known locally as Swampscott Harbor — on Saturday among member boats from the , the Nahant Dory Club and the Lynn Yacht Club.

Started in 2006 as a friendly club competition among these three clubs to introduce sailors from each club to each other, the Nahant Dory Club won the event the first three years with Swampscott Yacht Club winning in 2009 and 2010.

The Lynn Yacht Club is looking for its first win in 2011.

Over 30 boats ranging in size from 19 feet to 44 feet are expected to race on Saturday with two separate starts.

The first start, expected about 1 p.m., will be for the faster and larger boats followed five minutes later slower and smaller boats.

The race is organized based upon a handicap system used by the Performance Handicap Racing Fleet of New England in which each boat type is assigned a number based upon its past performance.

The elapsed times on the race course of each boat are then adjusted based upon this number and the winners determined.  The scores from the top eight boats at each club will be used to determine which club will win the regatta and host the event in 2012.

The Swampscott Yacht Club is the organizing authority for the race, having won the event last year.  It will also host the post race party at its club in Swampscott.
