Interview With Coach Faia Before Big Hockey Game

Here is an interview from a few days ago. We asked Swampscott hockey Coach Gino Faia his thoughts as the team heads to the state championship game on Sunday.

Do you know if Swampscott has ever won a hockey state championship? Or what was the furthest a Swampscott hockey team made it in the tournament?

 Swampscott has not won a state championship, this will be the first appearance in a state championship game 

What are your thoughts about the game against Medway?

 Unbelievable victory, showed the true character of the team by never giving up and finding a way to win.

What did you tell the kids going into OT?

Just told them to stay aggressive and keep attacking, unlike Medway who seemed to be content on going to a shootout.

What are your thoughts about playing in the state championship? What do you think, what do the kids think, about playing on the Garden ice?

Very excited, this is what you dream of as a player or a coach to play on the Garden ice for the state championship 

How are you preparing for Sunday? Practicing? Watching the semifinals against your prospective opponents? Is there another team dinner planned at the Masseys'?

Day off after the Emass championship win, will go to Fitchburg and scout game, we will practice Friday/Saturday and the team will have the final team dinner of the season at the Masseys' on Saturday evening.

Has the team picked up any other good luck charms or superstitions along the way, like the going blond?

As the away team will wear our blue jerseys and go with our red socks and each player has their own little routine which they will continue pre-game.

Speaking of which, how did you get your hair that color?

Got the hair blond the good old-fashion way of using bleach !
