Harrison's Homecoming Draws a Crowd

The return of local gold medal winner Kayla Harrison was quite the affair in Boston Sunday.

Local gold-medal winner Kayla Harrison was welcomed home by hundreds of friends, family members and fans at a celebration Sunday in Boston.

The welcome home party was at the Empire Asian Restaurant and Lounge on the Waterfront and featured addresses from Harrison, her coach and her family members, according to the Boston Globe.

Harrison, 22, made national history in London when she defeated Gemma Gibbons of Great Britain to win the gold medal in the women's half-heavyweight judo competition.

Harrison is originally from Middleton, Ohio, currently lives in Marblehead and trains at  in Wakefield. She is a two-time national champion and won the world championship in 2010. 

Harrison is also going to be honored at tonight's New England Patriots game, according to this story on ESPN Boston.
