Girls U-15 Lacrosse Off to Strong Start

Two games were decided late in the matches.

The Swampscott girls U15 lacrosse team has started the season off in a strong and exciting fashion.  They have played two games so far and both have been decided in the last minute of the game.

The first game of the season was against a strong Cape Ann team that quickly jumped out to a significant lead of 5 goals.  The Swampscott girls showed their poise by not getting rattled and began to chip away at the Cape Ann lead.

Ground balls were a key to the comeback said the coaches. “We out hustled the other team to the ball and used proper mechanics to gain control." Another key element in the game was Swampscott’s passing.  The players looked for and found the open players cutting to the net.  Swampscott tied it up late in the second half and pulled out the victory by burying the ball in the back of the net with just three seconds left. Final score: Swampscott 10, Cape Ann 9.

Swampscott’s second game on April 21 was against another strong contender, Wakefield.  This game was a battle from the first whistle with the lead changing hands throughout the game.  Swampscott’s defense  did a great job protecting the fan from cutters, the midfielders hustled up and down the field, and the attack was quick to create opportunities and strike.

Swampscott scored a late game-tying goal, but Wakefield emerged the winner when it scored the game-winning goal with just seconds left on the clock. Final score: Swampscott 10, Wakefield 11.  The coach’s were impressed with the team's enthusiasm.
