Girls Soccer Back in Action Tonight

Coaches challenged the tournament-bound team to realize their potential.

The spent 15 minutes in a circle with their coaches after Monday's loss to Danvers, 3-1, at Upper Jackson.

The coaches told the team that how they end their season is up to them, Assistant Coach Andres Gutierrez said in an interview.

"They've got so much potential, but you can't play the game on paper," he said of the 9-6-2 team.

Much of Monday's game remained tied, 0-0, until a Danvers corner kick from the left in the second half.

A Danvers player eventually took possession of the ball close to the goal and broke the tie pounding it into the net.

Gutierrez said Blue needs toughness on defense to prevent scoring opportunities.

Blue's possession style of play relies on team work — passing and running without the ball — but they need more grit on defense, the coach said.

Taylor Eaton scored Swampscott's goal from 40 yards out.

Blue goalie Bridget Genoversa-Wong made 6 saves.
