Girls Soccer and Marblehead Tie

The tie puts the Big Blue at 6-2-2 at the halfway point of their season.

Assistant Coach Andres Gutierrez liked what he saw in the effort against Marblehead at Upper Jackson Friday.

"They ran hard to everything," he said. "They were loud and ready to play."

Players from both teams were clustered around the goal and the ball ended up free about five yards from the goal.

The goalie sprang from her goal line and kicked the ball clear.

Marblehead also rang a free kick off the post.

offense had opportunities, as well.

Still, the main thing that Gutierrez and Coach Francesco Recchia saw and liked was their team's hustle.

That element was missing the day before when the Blue played Lynn English, the coaches said.

Blue won that game, 2-0, but the players appeared uninspired — just going through the motions, Gutierrez said.

Friday was a different story.

The team has an impressive 6-2-2 record at the halfway point, and returns to action on Monday at home against Revere at 10 am.
