St. John’s of Swampscott will be holding tryouts for the Boys and Girls Basketball teams for the 2011-2012 season. They will be held at the Swampscott Middle School on Saturday October 29th 2011. Please bring a basketball with you. For all girls it is the 28.5 size. The Boys Bantams also use the 28.5 sized basketball and the 7th and 8th grade boys use the full size, 29.5, ball. All those wishing to try-out must pre register on-line at www.swampscottcyo.org. The Bantam team is comprised of 4th, 5th, and 6th grade players, under age 13 and greater than age 9 as of 12/31/11. The Cadet team is comprised of 7th and 8th grade players, under age 15 and greater than age 11 as of 12/31/11.
The schedule is as follows:
Boys Cadets (grades 7 and 8).....Noon to 1:15pm
Girls Cadets (grades 7 and 8)….1:15-2:30pm
Boys Bantams (grades 4, 5 and 6)...2:30-3:45pm
Girls Bantams (grades 4,5 and 6).......3:45-5:00pm
CYO plays a 14- to 18-game schedule beginning in late November and finishing with the state tournament in March. We will have two practices per week and 1 or 2 games per weekend. The organization differentiates itself from other "grade level" leagues and competes with multi-grade level teams.
