Today was about staying focused after the weather mishaps of the morning. Our top three helped seal the race for us, and Allison has been our most consistent performer all year.

It's nice to have Jen back up in the top seven, too. What's not reflected at the top of our scoresheet is how much our second group is really starting to step up, led by Michelle LaConte, Sionna Hopkins, Paige Mentuck, and Steph Collins.

We want to remain competitive as an entire team as we gear up for tough meets against Peabody and Marblehead.

We were excited to race against a competitive Gloucester team, and the girls responded well! This team is starting to realize their potential!

Boys: Swampscott 27, Gloucester 28. Record: 5-0

Top finishers: Peter Hale (2nd, 15:25), Matt Mahoney (4th, 15:48), Nick Hartmann (5th, 16:09), Ryan Kelley (7th, 16:32), Matt Nardiello (9th, 16:48), Trevor Whelan (12th, 17:20), and Sam Crimmins (13th, 17:30).

This was as close as you can get in cross-country!

Peter, Nick, and Ryan provided consistency that we needed in our scoring, but two runners helped us win this race: Matt Mahoney and Matt Nardiello.

Mahoney had a breakout race, and stepped up to place a clutch fourth place. Nardiello, mainly a 400 meter hurdler, had the race of his life to help us inch past a competitive, well-coach Gloucester squad.

From top to bottom, all of the boys stepped up today. Enthusiasm was high all around, and that was contagious out there on the race course.

We know Gloucester will be ready for a re-match at the conference meet, and with meets against Peabody and Marblehead coming up, it's time to stay focused.

The little things are falling into place. We're lucky to have teams with such storied traditions to compete against, and we'll be taking full advantage of those opportunities!

The boys and girls' teams race again on Tuesday against Peabody.
