Blue Hockey Game Ends in Deadlock: 2-2

Swampscott lines fired away on the Revere goal Saturday but failed to bang home the game-winner.

 

There's good ties.

And there's bad ties.

hockey's 2-2 tie with Revere on Saturday had more in common with the latter kind.

"To us, it was a disappointing tie," coach Gino Faia said.

His team had lots of opportunties — more than 40 shots  — in their 2-2 afternoon tie on the Rockett Arena ice at Salem State University.

"We didn't execute," the coach said.

Blue scored both their goals in the first period.

Senior forward Matt Videtta got Blue on the board with a power-play goal at the 8:03 mark, assisted by a pair of juniors, Chris Carman and Trevor Massey.

A minute and five seconds later another junior, Corey Carmody, tallied Blue's second goal, assisted by senior Captain Gino Cresta and junior Robert Serino.

Blue goalie Patrick Sheehan made 14 saves including some key ones in the waning minutes.

Revere scored its goals on a breakway and a bang-bang play, the coach said.

The last four minutes of the third period showcased exciting hockey as both teams skated all out to resolve the draw.

The back-and-forth action included scoring opportunities at both ends.

A large contingent of Revere fans were cheering hard for their team.

In the final minute a dozen fans sprang from their seats and hit the glass, pounding on it to try to rally enthusiasm.

But their hollering was drowned out by the horn signaling a 2-2 tie.

The Swampscott players were clearly disappointed with the final.

Blue, 1-0-1, gets back on the ice Wednesday against Lynn.
