Blue Golf Bests Revere and Saugus

The varsity golf team concluded its 2011 season in the Northeastern South Conference on Wednesday with a win over Saugus at their home course, Tedesco Country Club.

The Big Blue finished second to Winthrop in the league with an 8 & 2 South Conference record (the 2 losses were to Winthrop).

The team completes its schedule over the next week against teams in the other division of the Northeastern Conference: at Salem on the 13th, at Marblehead on the 17th, at Peabody on the 19th, and at home (at Kernwood) against Salem on the 20th.

The Northeastern Conference Individual Championship will be held on the 18th at Kernwood and Trevor Massey and Gino Cresta will represent Swampscott.

On Wednesday four players won their matches while two others contributed by halving their matches in a competition that was closer than the final score indicated.

Matt Videtta and Cam Swigor led the Blue with 7 1/2 points each.

On Tuesday, the Big Blue earned a victory over the Revere High School squad with a top-to-bottom sweep of all 8 matches at Tedesco.

Led by co-captain Trevor Massey's low round of 37, the local team was in control from start to finish under perfect conditions: cool temperature, sunny sky, fast greens, and a shotgun start that allowed for a quick match before sundown.
