Blocksidge Field Gets Rebuilt and Rest

The plan is to rest the field until Sept. 1.

Blocksidge Field is resting until Sept. 1 following a makeover from hashmark to hashmark.
The $18,000-$19,000 makeover included removal of the old sod for the length of the football field from hashmark to hashmark then the tilling and cleaning of the soil before the new sod was put down and watered, said DPW Director Gino Cresta.
Before the makeover the middle of the field was pretty torn up, the director said.
The work at the Phillips Park field cost the town about $4,000 because youth sports volunteer Scott Faulkner raised the bulk of the funds through local youth sports organizations and private donations, the DPW director said.
Meanwhile, the new turf is putting down roots while it rests.
The plan is for the Big Blue football team to use the Phillips Park practice football field in the preseason while Blocksidge rests, the DPW director said.
