Big Blue Soccer's Season Ends

The girls lost 1-0 to Arlington Catholic at Upper Jackson Friday.

After girls' Big Blue soccer lost 1-0 to Arlington Catholic at home Friday the assistant coach urged the younger players to remember the moment.

Assistant Coach Andres Gutierrez said tournament games, with the entire season on the line, are extremely hard fought and it's important to prepare for them throughout the season.

On Fridya at Upper Jackson, Swampscott pushed the ball into Arlington territory but not into their goal.

"We just couldn't score," said Coach Francesco Recchia. "That's what it came down to."

The girls played hard. They even outplayed their opponent. They also made a mistake and the Arlington team capitalized on it, the coach said.

Arlington Coach Manny Bermejo said his team's defense bent but did not break.

They scored in the first half on a counterattack.

Swampscott had been putting pressure on Arlington and then they turned the tables on the Big Blue when Kaila Sullivan knocked in a goal.

"It came at the right time," he said.

Swampscott fought in the second half but struggled to create major scoring threats.

The coaches consoled the girls after the game by congratulating them on their effort but the loss was too fresh and a number of the players left the field wiping tears.
