Big Blue Girls Lacrosse Attack and Win

The girls team gained their first victory of the season, taking down Gloucester 16-12.

Big Blue relentlessly attacked a strong Gloucester team on Tuesday at Phillips Park, gaining their first win, 16-12.

"It was the most complete game we've played of the season," said Blue Coach Paula Donnelly.

Swampscott teammates communicated well with one another and helped each other on defense, the coach said.

Gloucester answered Swampscott goals on three consecutive occassions in the second half; but the Big Blue squad refused to wilt and continued to pour it on, pounding shots on the Gloucester goal.

Donnelly, however, was especially happy with her team's defensive play.

No Gloucester player went unmarked.

The Blue goalie, Samantha Coogan, gathered  15 saves.

"She did a really good job," Donnelly said.

The coach also credited Cathryn Singley, calling her midfield play strong.

The win moved Big Blue to 1-3 on the young season

The Blue play again next Thursday, against Danvers.
