Cookies go on sale Jan. 18. Swampscott and Nahant Girl Scouts have been training for the annual sale.

Here are five things to know Jan. 7, 2013 in Swampscott:

2) Newsbit of the Day: Nora Walker tells us that Swampscott and Nahant Girl Scouts are kicking off the New Year with Girl Scout cookie sales.

These iconic cookies will be on sale till January 18th! Do not hesitate to contact the Girl Scout in your life to purchase some!

Girl Scout troops of all ages, from the Ocean Bay neighborhood, gathered at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Lynn, for Ocean Bay’s Second Annual Holiday Cookie Exchange & Troop Cookie Manager Training on Sunday, December 2.

During this holiday event, Ocean Bay Girl Scouts enjoyed participating in a cookie swap, wrapping TLC presents, a cookie stack, and a cookie toss. This event was the big kick-off to the Girl Scout cookie sales of 2012-2013, the time of the year everyone looks forward to. 

3) Swampscott Scholars: Swampscott High Class of 2012 graduate Tatum Pedersen received the Edward I. Shub Memorial Scholarship.

4) Weather Watch: Mostly sunny, with a high near 34. 

5) Big Blue Watch: The Swampscott girls and boys' basketball teams square up against Marblehead tonight at Swampscott High. The girls play at 6 and the boys at 7:30 p.m.
