Welcome to the SHS Blueprint

Staff from the Swampscott High School Blueprint journalism program will be posting blogs on the Patch.

Pasted below is their first one, a blog titled Thank You, which appears on the Patch homepage.

We welcome the students' contributions and thank them for their work, and wish them well as they explore the world of reporting.

We will be featuring some of the students' blogs as news items, as well, such as with the second blog we received, Rodent Invasion, by Niamh Lang.

On behalf of the Swampscott Journalism program, I would like to thank the Swampscott Education Fund and the Swampscott Patch for their wonderful support of the SHS Blueprint. Last year, we discovered that our hosting site was shutting down, and would not be transferring their services. Because of this, we applied for a grant that would completely overhaul the way our newspaper worked. Now, thanks to the generous grant from the Swampscott Education Fund, we are now able to purchase a place among SNO.com (School Newspapers Online), a new formatting software program called Quark, and finally we were able to purchase a new camera to further the quality of our newspaper. Not only are we now on a newer and more efficient host site, we now have full capability of creating a print newspaper, and are able to flesh out our article with color photos. This extremely generous grant will be a great help to our efforts to assist students in exploring journalism and modern communications.

And no small thanks go to the Swampscott Patch, who has given us the opportunity to post all our stories on their website. This gives the student journalists who are looking to put their work out into the public spectrum a possibility to be noticed. Without these two programs and their generous contributions to our class, we would not be able to continue as we have been. We thoroughly appreciate both of these groups, and are extremely thankful for their support.

Many Thanks,

SHS Blueprint
