The Muffinz Finish First in Middle School Dodgeball Tournament

Fourteen teams of over 90 Middle School students hit the gym Thursday afternoon to take part in the seventh annual Dodgeball Tournament.

With last year’s dodgeball champions The Flaming Ponies having moved on to the ninth grade, the field was open for a new champion Thursday afternoon at the Swampscott Middle School Dodgeball Tournament.

Fourteen teams entered the tournament, with over 90 kids from grades 5. 6, 7 and 8 trying to be the last guy or girl standing when the throws stopped and the balls stopped bouncing.

With 12 teams gone the Muffinz, made up of seventh graders, and squared off against No Mark’s Allowed, comprised of eighth grade students.

The Muffinz were big underdogs, younger kids, and had only seven players on the team. The Muffinz took the first game, No Mark’s Allowed rallied to tie the series at 1-1, and in the end, when time expired, The Muffinz were the 2011 Dodgeball champions.

The Muffinz had six players left on the floor, the No Mark’s Allowed had four and it was party time for the Muffinz.

The Muffinz roster included Devon Wall, Pat Bartholomew, Jake Cooper, E. J. Palleschi, Elija Wilson, Jackson Allard and Jake Baldwin.

“The kids really had a great time,” PE teacher Todd Brown said. “It’s very competitive, the kids play real hard and they put a lot of time and effort into their costumes as well.”

P.J. Vinal, A. J. Carrigan, Bailey Kennedy, Jay Dignan, Steven Albright, Jake Whitlock. Ryan Bradley and Charlie Sneirson were on the No Mark’s Allowed roster.

The Neon Ninjas, The Sparkling Unicorn and the Wayho Rubber Ducks had great names, but didn’t take the top prize.
