Swampscott Students Earn Degrees in Georgia and Connecticut

Jonathan Salter earned a bachelor's of art degree and Sarah Murray a bachelor's of science degree in nursing.

Jonathan Salter of Swampscott, son of Robert Falk Salter and Ruthie Lea Salter, received a Bachelor of Arts from Emory College of Emory University in Atlanta, Ga., at its 166th commencement ceremony on May 9, 2011.

Fairfield University, a Jesuit university founded in 1942 in Fairfield, Conn., awarded 1,285 diplomas at its 61st commencement on Sunday, May 22, 2011, on Bellarmine Hall Lawn during two ceremonies, one in the morning for undergraduates, and one in the afternoon for those receiving graduate degrees. 

Sarah A. Murray, a resident of Swampscott, who studied in Fairfield's School of Nursing, was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing.

The Honorable Maryanne Trump Barry, a highly regarded judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals Third Circuit and a community leader with a strong commitment to education and service for those in need, delivered the undergraduate commencement address at the morning ceremony. Navy Rear Admiral Brian Monahan, a 1982 graduate of Fairfield who is the attending physician for the United States Congress and United States Supreme Court and has been the lead investigator on clinical trials for anti-cancer drugs, delivered the graduate commencement address in the afternoon.

More than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students from 36 states, 47 foreign countries, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico are enrolled in the University's six schools. Fairfield prepares students for leadership and service through broad intellectual inquiry, the pursuit of social justice, and cultivation of the whole person.
