Swampscott Named One of State's Most Educated Communities

A look at the communities with the most educated residents shows Swampscott near the top in the region.

Swampscott is one of the state's most educated communities, according to data from the American Community Survey, compiled by WCVB-TV.

The analysis looked at the percentage of residents in each Massachusetts community with a graduate degree or higher.

Swampscott ranked No. 36 in the state with 26.9 percent of the town's residents 25 and older with a graduate degree. It is one of the highest percentage in any of the communities on the North Shore, with just Marblehead higher at 30.7 percentage.

Seconsett Island has the most educated population in the state, with 63.6 percent of its adult residents with a graduate degree or higher. Seconsett Island is a waterfront area of Mashpee on Cape Cod.

Other towns north of Boston on the list include Winchester at No. 12, Andover at No. 27, Boxford at No. 43, Reading at No. 45, Newburyport at No. 47, Topsfield at No. 52 Nahant at No. 54, Melrose at No. 56, Burlington at No. 64 and Lynnfield at No. 75
