Superintendent Seeks Waiver For Missed Days

The two days Hadley School was closed last week due to concerns over air quality would push the end of the school year to June 24.

has written the state commissioner of education asking him to waive the required make-up of two days lost last week at Hadley School.

The superintendent is not optimistic that Commissioner Mitchell Chester will grant the waiver.

Hadley was closed Wednesday and Thursday due to the major building fire next door at the corner of Redington and Humphrey Streets.

On Wednesday, fire crews were still, on occassion, fighting flames at the gateway building.

School was closed Thursday as a precaution over concerns about the children and staff breathing unhealthy air.

If the commissioner denies the superintendent's waiver request, and the school misses no more days this year, then school would remain in session until June 24, a Friday.

School Committees are required to schedule a school year with at least 185 days at each school, and the schools are required to be in operation for at least 180 school days in a school year.
