STEM Week Continues Tonight at Swampscott High

Attend hands-on projects for the community tonight at STEM Family Night from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Swampscott High School.

STEM Week started with Nobel Laureate Richard Roberts speaking with Swampscott Middle School students on Monday.

The celebration of science, technology, engineering and math continues tonight from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Swampscott High School with hands-on projects.

Last year robotic soccer, floor sailing and catapult demonstrations generated interest and laughter in the field house.

The demonstrations showed how STEM studies have a place in classrooms including those where students learn about robotics, physical science and history.

In the atrium, art students drew and painted beneath a poster board describing how art and science thrived side-by-side during the Renaissance — from the 14th to the 16 centuries.

The STEM activities showed families what STEM students are up to and introduced children to STEM programming they will study when they get to high school.

Organizers hope excitement inspires students to think about STEM-related college studies and careers.

Also during STEM week Swampscott is hosting 18 Chinese students here to take part in USSTEM related projects.
