School Disciplinary Hearing Takes Place in Executive Session

The board also voted not to reconvene on Monday.

The Swampscott School Committee voted to enter nonpublic session for a disciplinary hearing Monday night as well as to not reconvene in public.
The talks, about an unnamed employee, were allowed to take place in nonpublic under one of the exceptions to the state's open meeting law.
The committee cited the following exception before going into their session: "to discuss the discipline or dismissal of, or complaints or charges brought against, a public officer, employee, staff member or individual."
Patch asked the School Committee chairman, earlier, to identify the person who was the subject of the talks.
The chairman declined to do so, saying his sense was that the board could not do so without potentially compromising the reputation of the individual.
He also said that there had been no previous public discussion by the School Committee of the specific events to be discussed Monday.
The committee met Monday at 7 in the principal's conference room at Swampscott High.
Present at the meeting were committee members Ted Delano, Amy O'Connor, Carin Marshall, Marianne Hartmann, and Chairman Rick Kraft as well as Interim Superintendent Garry Murphy, Assistant Superintendent Pamela Angelakis and Executive Superintendent for Special Projects Lynne Celli.
Also present were two attorneys: James Toomey, representing the Swampscott School District; and Neil Rossman representing the person being discussed.
