School Committee Schedules Disciplinary Hearing For Monday

The meeting is scheduled for tonight at 7 at the high school.

The School Committee has scheduled a disciplinary hearing for Monday, July 15, at 7 p.m. at the high school in the principal's conference room.

The agenda for the meeting lists it as an executive session "to discuss the discipline or dismissal of, or complaints or charges brought against, a public officer, employee, staff member or individual."

According to the state's open meeting law the person who is the subject of the discussion has the right to choose to have it in open meeting — taking precedence over the right of the public body to go into executive session.

If it ends up that the meeting is to take place behind closed doors, the chairman of the public body must — according to the open meeting law — do the following:

  • Convene in open session;
  • State the reason for the executive session, stating all subjects that may be revealed without compromising the purpose for which the executive session was called;
  • State whether the public body will reconvene in open session at the end of the executive session; and
  • Take a roll call vote of the body to enter executive session.
