School Committee Candidate Withdraws

Stephanie Greenfield enjoys her role at schools now, and, upon further reflection, does not want to change that.

Dear Swampscott residents, neighbors and friends,

I recently submitted a letter explaining my reasons for running for School Committee.  I am writing again to tell you that I have decided to withdraw my nomination.

While my decision to enter the race was well thought out, it was not a difficult decision to make, as my goals for and reasons for wanting to be a part of the School Committee were always clear.  My decision to withdraw from the race, however, was much more complicated and one that I spent many sleepless nights pondering.

I sincerely enjoy my role with the PTA and the impact I am able to have on a daily basis.  The rewards are very tangible and gratifying. As well, this involvement has allowed me a greater level of interaction with the teachers and administration, whom I have come to know and have such a great respect and admiration for.  I understand that serving a public office comes with rewards as well, but the trade off of giving this up is not something I am not ready to do.

My level of dedication to education in Swampscott has not changed, nor have my views or thoughts expressed in this campaign.  I plan to continue my movement to “raise the bar” by helping bring enriching programs, and not settling for the status quo, while ensuring the whole child is being cared for.  As parents we need to be held accountable for the well being of our children.  We all have the ability to precipitate change and help shape the academic, social and emotional education our children experience in Swampscott.

I wish all three candidates well in their campaigns and congratulate them for offering up their service to our children and our town.

Best,

Stephanie Greenfield
