The School Committee last week accepted her gift of more than 100 books — including multiple copies of 23 titles and nine single copies of other books.

The books explore corners of the globe. The books are fiction and nonfiction, set in the past and the present.

The books tell stories about life in the United States during the American Revolution, the Civil War and other times.

They tell stories about life in Cuba, Burma, Eastern Europe and elsewhere.

The teacher was and remains excited about global education.

Many of her students participated in annual videoconferences the past three years, linking them with fellow students in South Africa.

Now McKenzie is championing geography and global education through these books, gifted to the library.

The books are written at various reading levels and supplement each grade's social studies curriculum.

She hopes the books will encourage students to read and learn more about the world.
