Proposed School Budget Up 2.8 Percent

Superintendent says spending plan for 2012 balances education needs with available resources.

The proposed budget for the next school year adds positions in some areas, cuts them in others and shifts responsibilities to keep classroom sizes at current levels, Superintendent Lynne Celli said at Wednesday's School Committee meeting.

The proposal also saves money by replacing the higher salaries of experienced staff who are retiring with the lower salaries of newcomers.

The School Committee is scheduled to vote on the proposal March 9.
