Principal Search Committee To Meet Within 2 Weeks

The committee will include school representatives and citizens. Their job will be to help find a new Swampscott Middle School principal.

 

Resumes are already arriving from those who want fill the expected principal vacancy at Swampscott Middle School next school year.

Current Principal Ralph Watson will be leaving the position in June. He has been the school's principal for six years. He was recently selected for a head position at a new upper school in Cambridge.

Swampscott Superintendent Lynne Celli has advertised the anticipated opening and started to form a principal search panel. 

The panel's members will include the superintendent, a representative from the central administrative office, High School Principal Layne Millington, an elementary school principal, middle school teachers, parents of students in Swampscott schools and community members with no children in district schools.

About half the panel has been assembled but the superintendent is still seeking representatives from the community.

Celli hopes to fill the post by the end of April.

This timeline would allow the new principal to be in the school alongside the current principal during the school's transitional days.

The superintendent wants the search committee to meet in an orientation session by the first week in March.

The hiring will ultimately fall to the superintendent, she said. 

Celli said on Monday that whe was talking to other superintendents about possible candidates for the middle school opening.
