Assistant SHS Principal Frank Kowalski will be acting principal from June 3 to June 28, after which the newly hired lead school administrator, Edward Rozmiarek, will take the helm.

Principal Millington sought the early departure from Swampscott and will take unused vacation and personal days as well as leave without pay, said Superintendent Lynne Celli.

The superintendent said the high school principal came to her with the request to leave early.

"We worked it out," she said.

The superintendent said she has full confidence in the administrative team at the high school, Frank Kowalski and Assistant Principal Lytania Mackey, to complete the school year successfully.

Asked if she thinks Millington will leave any work unfinished, work that would be better completed by him than a new individual, the superintendent said she did not know of any such work at this point.

Patch has been in communication with Principal Millington, asking why he is leaving early without pay, but we have not yet received a reply to the question. (*We will be talking to the principal today, Wednesday, and will post an article on the conversation.)

The principal told the SHS community in a letter that he wants to spend time with his family before transitioning to his new position.

He also said he spent time with the incoming principal, Edward Rozmiarek, and the school will be in good hands.

Millington is leaving Swampscott for his new post as principal at Marblehead High School in the 2013-14 school year.

He was hired by Swampscott Superintendent Celli in 2010 and has anchored the school since July 2010.
