Middle School Students Are Backing The Blue

Forget Jimmy The Greek and Phil Sheridan, people in the know, the kids from the Swampscott Middle School, are all picking the Big Blue to win Thursday morning in Marblehead.

With the clock getting close to 12 noon outside the Wednesday afternoon, Gina the crossing guard was getting ready to usher the kids safely across Forest Avenue, but she took a moment to weigh in on the Big Game set for Thanksgiving morning.

“Oh, the kids look great today, they have football shirts on, they’re all very excited about the game and the holiday, and I think Swampscott’s going to win 35-15.”

Kim and Lisa were in their SUV at the crosswalk waiting for the kids to come out and were unanimous in their support of the boys from Swampscott.

“Swampscott, definitely,” Kim said. “It’s going to be a close one, but we’re going to win it for sure.”

“No contest, Swampscott by 20 points,” Lisa said.

Betty B., who had ventured into enemy territory to pick up her two grandchildren, begrudgingly picked Swampscott to prevail on Turkey Day.

“I’m from Marblehead, so naturally I’m rooting for the Headers all the way, and I think Swampscott’s going to win it though, that Walsh kid can really throw it.” “Hopefully, Marblehead can use the home field advantage and win it.”

Brady, Steven and Patrick made their way down the front steps and all three said Big Blue would come out on top, Steven said it would be a blow-out, 47-6 for Swampscott.

Chris Kirby from Aspen Road said his parents were getting him and his brother and sister to the game nice and early and Swampscott was going to win 21-0.

“Marblehead’s got no chance, Go Big Blue,” the sixth grader yelled.

M. C. from Humphrey Street said the game was coming down to a field goal, and the Big Blue’s Nick Meninno was going to kick that winning field goal that will send the Big Blue into the playoffs Tuesday night against Wakefield.

“It’s going to be us, just like last year, we win it at the end, “ M. C. said. “Marblehead’s a good team, but we’re gooder!” “We have Baker, Lang, Serino, Walsh, Zach, Sam Gold, Evan, there’s no way they can beat us, Big Blue’s best man!”

Troy L. and his pal Brett B. both have Swampscott penciled in for 21 points in victory, Troy said it’s Swampscott 21-20, Brett said it’s the Blue 21-14 on a last second touchdown.

With boys in eye black and girls wearing football jerseys and swinging pom-poms, students filed out of school for the long Thanksgiving holiday break knowing Swampscott would be moving to 5-0 in NEC/CAL Tier II play, advancing to the playoffs, with another Swampscott Super Bowl title a couple of weeks away.

Devon from Charlotte Road said, “Swampscott’s going to win, we’re going to eat a lot of turkey, my grandpa’s going to fall asleep, then we’ll watch some more football on TV.”
