Middle School Hockey Skates to Semi-Finals

The little Big Blue hockey players were propelled into the semi-finals on Monday with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Salem. The middle schoolers play next on Thursday at Salem State.

The Swampscott Middle School hockey team won a squeaker over Salem 2-1 on Monday.

Daniel Popouskiy scored with 4 minutes left to propel Swampscott into the semi-finals vs the winner of Tuesday's game between #3 seed Peabody and #6 seed Beverly.

The semi-final game will be played at Salem State on Thursday at 6:30 pm. The win boosts the Swampscott hockey squad's overall record to an impressive 20-4.

"The kids have done a great job playing a dual schedule between the Salem State Viking Middle School Hockey League and the school sponsored independent schedule," said Coach Dan Santanello.

"We have received great leadership from all of our eighth graders including Captains Jack Morretti, Mike Johnson and David Peterson and strong goaltending from Zach Turner and Dan Johnson."

Swampscott hockey supporters are excited to see the program getting stronger.

"I’ve got to believe that all of these kids will have an impact on the future success of Big Blue Hockey," the coach said.
