High School Guidance Department Gets Overhaul

The changes include the resignation of Thomas Healey.

The Guidance Department has a new director, and added and lost a counselor.

Ten-year veteran counselor resigned his position June 30, said Superintendent Lynne Celli.

More than a month earlier the counselor was placed on administrative leave after police summonsed him to court on a felony for allegedly breaking into a colleague’s Humphrey Street home on May 11.

Celli said Healey resigned after talks with school administration.

“It was a conversation between the two parties,” she said.

Healey’s criminal case has yet to go to trial. He is due back in court for a pretrial hearing on Sept. 22.

Other guidance changes include John Solazzo’s retirement.

Emily Zotto takes the reins as the new director.

The department’s new counselor, Jenn Magary, was previously an intern at the high school and graduated from Salem State University with a master’s degree in education for school counseling, according to a high school Guidance Department newsletter.
