Girls Tennis Celebrates Senior Day With 5-0 Win

The win against Beverly gave the Big Blue a regular season record of 14-4. They now await their tournament seeding.

Swampscott girls' tennis ended their regular season with white roses for their seniors and a 5-0 victory for the team.

Before Friday's match, Coach Niña  Rogers introduced Ashley Petras, Alicia Coyle, Danica Villanueva, Rita Tsokanis and Tatum Pederson on Senior Day.

It was a simple tribute to the girls whose high school tennis days are coming to an end.

Fittingly, the ceremony took place on the Forest Avenue surface where the girls have spent hundreds of hours together practicing and playing, competing and having fun.

Teammates handed a single white rose to each of the seniors after their introduction, and they handed the roses to their moms and got hugs and kisses.

The girls either smiled or wiped away tears as the coach told them they were special to her and she had enjoyed spending time with them and being their coach.

The girls then went out and won their 14th victory of the season against Beverly.

Senior Rita Tsokanis played at No. 1, winning 6-1, 6-0.

Freshman Anna Raptunovich played at No. 2 and won her match 6-1, 6-1.

Senior Tatum Pederson played at No. 3, winning 6-0, 6-1.

The first doubles team of Alicia Coyle and Danica Villanueva won their match 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.

The second doubles team of Ashley Petras and Allegra Walker won their match 6-1, 6-1.

"It was a good day for us on the tennis court — five and 0 for the Big Blue," the coach said.

Earlier in the week the girls defeated Gloucester 5-0 and lost 3-2 to Manchester Essex and 4-1 to Marblehead.

Now the team is looking forward to finding out who their opponent will be in the North Div. 2 tournament.
