Capt. Charles Moore, who discovered of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a huge gyre of plastic in the Pacific Ocean, will be the guest speaker on Wednesday, April 11 at Salem State University. He is the author of "Plastic Ocean: How a Sea Captain's Chance Discovery Launched a Quest to Save the Oceans" and founder of the Algalita Marine Research Center. The public is welcome and students are encouraged to attend. A social hour and Earth Day awards precedes the talk from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The public is welcome to the evening's activities. The event is free.
