Committee Hires Acting Superintendent (July 1) Until Interim Arrives

Swampscott's interim superintendent for the next school year has responsibilities to tend to in his current interim role before he starts in Swampscott.

The School Committee has appointed Assistant Superintendent Pam Angelakis to be acting superintendent from July 1 - July 14.

Angelakis will hold the position down until the district's interim superintendent for the next school year, July 15, said School Committee Chairman Rick Kraft.

Kraft said that Murphy needs to stay in Wakefield to work with its new superintendent on the transition until then.

Before Garry Murphy took the Wakefield interim post, he was interim superintendent at Hillsboro-Deering — last year — and an educational consultant for Arlington, Nashoba Valley, Groton-Dunstable and Swamspcott between 2005-2010.

He retired in 2005 after 13 years as superintendent for the Triton Regional School District.

Swampscott School Committee members brought Murphy aboard as an experienced superintendent, someone who has helped stabilize and bring together other districts in flux.

They want Murphy, who will work part-time, to move forward with technological and other existing initiatives and mentor and coach administrators, the committee chairman said earlier.

Current Superintendent Lynne Celli will serve in the coming school year as executive superintendent for special projects, and is scheduled to earn $85,000, or half her current $170,000 salary.
