Black & Blue Wrestling Team Begins Season Saturday in Beverly

The co-operative Marblehead-Swampscott wrestling team begins its season this Saturday at the Northeast Conference Brawl at Beverly High School. The tournament, which includes teams from Winthrop-Saugus, Beverly, Salem, and Peabody, will begin at 10 a.m.

The team, often referred to as Black & Blue, will kick off the season with the largest number of wrestlers its had in years. Returning wrestlers include Jake Powell, captain, Sean Taylor, Ali Atallah, Cam Budrow, Maleek Newsome, and Dmitriy Ladokha. Newcomers to the team include Stephen Hopkins, an 8th grader who will wrestle at 106 pounds, Brett Resnick, Max Bazarov, Ben Grant, Taylor Negron, and Mark Rittiboon.

Mike Stamison is returning at the head coach. He will be assisted by Rich Maestranzi, Chris Jacobs, Matt Dunn, Drew Firestone, and Igor Babushkin.
