Black & Blue High School Wrestlers Celebrate & Reflect at Banquet

Co-op wrestling team and families get together at annual Banquet

It was only fitting that the morning of the Wrestling team's banquet, Swampscott & Marblehead residents were again greeted with snow.  The Black & Blue Varsity wrestlers are no strangers to early mornings, cold, darkness & snow.  That is what the grapplers had to deal with most Saturday mornings as they were headed to tournaments or Quad meets.  Ah the life of a high school wrestler in MA.

Last Thursday, 3/13 however- was time for celebration, reflection, a glimpse towards the future & acknowledging accomplishments.  The Marblehead-Swampscott Wrestling Booster Club held the season-ending Banquet at the Swampscott Yacht Club which was attended by wrestlers, coaches & families.

Attendees dined on main courses provided by Lynn Meatland, it was great watching the boys eat without having to worry about making weight (except for 8th Grader Michael Haskell (120 lbs.) who was wrestling in the New England Youth Championships this past weekend, so he had to be careful!).

Head Coach Mike Stamison addressed the group after dinner and talked about the accomplishments of the team, the uniqueness of wrestling as a sport, set the bar for next year's returning wrestlers and challenged everyone to help support the varsity program by supporting the youth wrestling program run through the Swampscott Rec. Dept.. Stamison then handed out Varsity letters to all team members and individual awards.

The Booster Club brought appetizers, side dishes & an awesome (very fattening cake) that everyone enjoyed. Captain Ali Atallah then gave all the coaches gift cards as a token of the team's appreciation for all their work with the boys.
