Let us know what you think about the idea: combining town and school maintenance work.
Last Wednesday the Board of Selectmen agreed to allow Town Administrator Thomas Younger to apply to the Metropolitan Council of Governments for a $50,000 innovation grant to begin the process of combining the maintenance work for the town and the schools.
The funding, if approved, will begin the process of bringing the two maintenance departments together. It will also buy computer software designed to facilitate orders for maintenance work.
Other towns, including Hamilton and Wenham, have combined their maintenance departments in an effort to increase efficiencies and reduce costs.
