Weekly Recycling Starts This Week

It has been in the works for a while but starts in earnest this week.

 

Last month selectmen voted to start weekly recycling in Swampscott now.

Now meant as soon as the town administrator could iron out the recycling pick-up contract.

The contract has been ironed out and the service is scheduled to start this week. Monday marks the start of weekly recycling.

And while we have not heard how much the weekly service will cost, the Board of Health projected that the estimated $30,000 in savings from the town's waste reduction program would fund the move from biweekly to weekly pick-up of recycled materials in the current fiscal year, 2013, ending June 30, 2013.

Town Administrator Tom Younger and staff were adjusting the proposed 2014 budget to accomodate weekly recycling in the next fiscal year, starting July 1.
