Truck Traffic and Parking Shuttled to Study Committee

Banning truck traffic on Humphrey Street is among the proposals to be studied by the panel.

On Tuesday, selectmen sent four items to the town Traffic Study Committee for the members to look at and return to the board with recommendations.

One of the ideas would be to ban trucks not making local deliveries to from traveling the beach road, Humphrey Street.

Some residents say trucks pose a risk to pedestrians and congest traffic on the road. They also say other routes are available to the truckers.

The idea would be to restrict trucks just as they are restricted on Lynn Shore Drive.

Another item heading to the study panel would prohibit parking on the non-beach-side of Puritan Lane.

The two remaining items concern Burpee Road.

A resident has asked that the no parking signs across from Machon School be removed.

This would allow for more parking on the east side of the road, reducing congestion.

The other item is related to speeding on Burpee.

The traffic study group includes representatives from town administration, public works, and fire and police.

They typically hold public hearings, do field investigations and discuss ideas before bringing recommendations to selectmen,
