Town Administrator's Resignation Effective Dec. 23

Selectmen will vote on Wednesday to accept the resignation of Town Administrator Andrew Maylor, who will become North Andover's manager.

The first of three steps the town must take before hiring a new town administrator is to accept the resignation of the current administrator, Andrew Maylor.

Selectmen are expected to do that at their meeting Wednesday, said Chairman Matt Strauss.

The second step is to form a committee to search for a new administrator.

And the third step is to name an acting town administrator, given it's unlikely the town will have a replacement hired by Dec 23, the effective date of Maylor's resignation.

The town charter spells out the procedure for replacing a town administrator.

It's a deliberate procedure with deadlines and requirements.

Strauss hopes to see a new administrator on the job before town meeting in April.

Under the charter, the search committee is formed by committee.

The moderator appoints two members, the selectmen one, the School Committee one and the Finance Committee one.

The search panel will, in the end, present 3-5 candidates to selectmen, and they will hire the next town administrator.

Maylor earned $133,262 as town administrator in 2010.

Selectmen meet at 7 in Wednesday.

State Rep. Lori Ehrlich, D-Marblehead, and state Sen. Thomas McGee, D-Lynn, will update the board on the latest state news at the meeting.
