Tierney Hires New District Director

Chip Payson joined the congressman this week.

Congressman John Tierney has hired Chip Payson of Danvers to be his new district director, with offices in Peabody and Lynn.

“Chip’s experience in both government and the private sector will be an asset to our office and we will benefit from his many relationships with community leaders, elected officials, local residents, and businesses across our area,” Tierney said in a statement.

Payson was recently vice president of external affairs at Northeast Health System in Beverly. Before that, he was chief of staff to Massachusetts State Senator Steven Tolman, as associate director of the Office of Public Liaison in the Clinton White House and as assistant to the chief of staff to U.S. Sen. Tom Harkin, D-Iowa. Payson also served in the offices of congressmen Patrick Kennedy and Philip Sharp.

“I join the congressman in his dedication to serving local families, businesses, and communities in the 6th district," Payson said. "We remain committed to maintaining top level constituent services, working to create local jobs, improving our economy, and strengthening healthcare and education opportunities for the families we serve.”

A graduate of Suffolk University Law School, Payson has served on the boards of the Essex National Heritage Commission, Hospice of the North Shore and Bridge over Troubled Water.
