Temple Project to Build Fewer Houses, Pay Less to Town

The proposal still needs Town Meeting approval, likely coming before the members in a special meeting this fall.

have agreed to take $350,000 less from Atlantic Crossing, the developers of the Temple Project, and agreed to its proposal that it build five fewer houses on the property.

The developer had proposed to pay the town $2.2 million and build 19 single-family homes on the property. But Town Meeting rejected that proposal this spring, sending Atlantic Crossing back to the drawing board.

The new, less dense proposal would divide the property into 14 home sites. The new lots would be 6,500 square feet.

Selectman Jill Sullivan praised Atlantic for proposing to pay the town only 18 percent less, while reducing the housing density by 26 percent.

The housing proposal still needs approval from Town Meeting, said the chairman of the Board of Selectmen, Rich Malagrifa.

Last time the zoning changes came before Town Meeting, in May, they failed to get the required two-thirds vote.

The item failed to receive a simple majority, going down to defeat by a vote of 93-104.

Representatives for the developer said earlier that they planned to bring the zoning question to the Special Town Meeting expected this fall.
