Taxes and Little League Before Selectmen

The board will meet tonight instead of Wednesday night, Thanksgiving Eve.

Selectmen will hold a public hearing tonight on 2012 taxes.

Each year the town assessor classifies local property under categories including residential and commercial.

And selectmen decide the percentage of the tax levy to be paid by those who own residences or businesses.

The 2011 property tax-rate burden was the same as 2010's — at 175 percent for businesses and 100 percent for residences.

The 2011 rate is $16.60 per $1,000 property valuation; and the business tax rate is $30.80.

In 2010 the tax rate was $16.48 per $1,000 property valuation for residences and $30.58 per $1,000 valuation for commercial property.

And in 2009 the residential rate was $14.43 for residences and the commercial rate was $26.63.

In 2008, the residential rate was $13.63 and the commercial rate was $25.21.

Residents can weigh in on the tax discussion at the public hearing.

Also tonight, according to the meeting agenda, the Little League Board of Directors will ask permission to hang a sign that honors Al Duratti, Andrew Holmes and Alfio Cerone at the Little League field. 

Dan Santanello said in an interview that the league wants approval to name the field for the men, memorializing their years of service.
