Swampscott Residents Can Get Heat Relief at Senior Center

The Police Department will provide transportation to the center. The town also offers several tips for protecting yourself, family, friends and neighbors during this time of extreme heat.

Information for this announcement came from Denise Dembkoski of the Town of Swampscott.

This is a reminder that the air-conditioned is available to any senior citizen during this time of extreme heat. If you need transportation, please call the Swampscott Police Department at 781-595-1111.

Here are some tips to follow during hot, humid weather:

  • Slow down, avoid strenuous activity.
  • Do not try to do too much on a hot day.
  • Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-colored clothing.
  • Protect your face with a wide-brimmed hat.
  • Drink plenty of water regularly and often, even if you do not feel thirsty.
  • Limit intake of alcoholic beverages.
  • Stay indoors as much as possible.
  • If you do not have air conditioning, stay on your lowest floor, out of the sun.
  • Electric fans do not cool the air, but they do help evaporate perspiration, which cools your body.
  • Never leave children or pets alone in a closed vehicle.
  • And please check on family, friends and neighbors.
